Foampack

Cooling Tower Pack Cleaner

We have been developing our own range of Cooling Tower Pack Cleaning foaming chemicals. Our “Foampack” range has given impressive results against both microbiological growth and scale.
The need to physically remove the packing from the cooling tower is eliminated and, with this, takes away the extensive costs and risk associated.
We developed our own foaming lance which can be used with any high-performance pressure washer.

Foampack A & B

M & S Water Services Limited use a mix of Sodium Chlorite and Orthophosphoric Acid to create Stabilised Chlorine Dioxide and, in conjunction with our foaming agent, forms a stable wet foam. This is applied to the pack using our own developed foaming lance which maximises the foam formation and coverage of the chlorine dioxide to all the surfaces of the pack.

Foampack C

M & S Water Services Limited have developed an acidic version of the Foampack which uses a more amphoteric foaming agent which is tolerant to the acid used. This product is used to remove any scale that has formed through the Cooling Tower Pack in the same way as the Fomapack A & B.

MS 159, On Line Boiler Clean

MS 159 is an exceptional product which is used to clean up steam boilers which have suffered scale deposits on the boiler tubes etc.

Where it is used

MS 159 has been used in various applications primarily where a sites water softeners have failed but by the time it has been discovered the hardness levels in the boilers rose beyond a point where routine chemical treatments could not prevent these solids precipitating which then bake onto the tubes.

Benefits for the customer

If an acid clean is required this entails dangerous chemicals to be applied and the H&S issues are considerable not to mention disposal of these solutions from a site. Also, an acid only makes contact with the surface area of the scale in which the active ‘H’ ion reacts but is then consumed. If there is only a few millimetres of scale the active acid in use loses its effectiveness and more and more fresh acid is required which more than likely never happens and the results are never conclusive for the cost applied to the job.

How it works

This procedure is carried out daily over several weeks when the boiler can be drained for inspection purposes. We rely on the boiler being on line in that as the boiler reaches high fire on load this causes the metal to expand but the scale can’t. The alkalinity levels also assist so, these should be maintained around 600 ppm. The product works like WD40 by penetrating the deposit and gets under it causing it to pop off the tube and falls to the bottom of the boiler. Care also to be taken not to block the blow down valve. No cases of this have been recorded to date even with large amounts of scale accumulating at the bottom. These deposits would be raked out by an operator at the shutdown.
Depending on the chemical nature of the scale (if an analysis has been ascertained) will determine product application rates and length of time taken for best results.
